NIASPAN

Already had one heart attack?

For NIASPAN Patients

The role of NIASPAN® (niacin extended-release tablets) in your therapy

NIASPAN may be prescribed with other medications as part of a total program to manage your cardiovascular risk factors. Each medication has its role.

NIASPAN raises your level of HDL cholesterol, the good cholesterol.

Higher levels of HDL cholesterol are associated with lower risk of heart problems. NIASPAN dosed at 1000 mg increases HDL cholesterol levels by 14% on average for men, and 20% for women. NIASPAN also helps reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

It’s important to keep taking all the medications your doctor prescribes to get the risk-reduction benefit you need. You should not change your medications without talking to your doctor first.

In addition to medications, you can lower your health risks with healthy diet and regular exercise.

What is heart disease?

Heart disease is the phrase used on this website to cover a number of health problems where blood vessels become clogged so that blood can’t get to major organs. The result may be:
  • Heart attack
  • Bypass surgery
  • Angioplasty
  • Stent
