How to take NIASPAN
- With your doctor's approval, take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen about 30 minutes before taking NIASPAN® (niacin extended-release tablets). This may help to minimize flushing.1
- Take NIASPAN at bed time.
- Take NIASPAN with a low-fat snack to help reduce the chance of stomach upset.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages, hot beverages and spicy foods around the time of taking NIASPAN. Why?
- Don't break, crush or chew NIASPAN. The NIASPAN tablet should be swallowed whole to give you the extended-release benefit.
- If you experience flushing, learn more about what it is, why it happens, and tips to help manage it. You should not stop taking NIASPAN without talking to your doctor.
