How Can NIASPAN Help?

Niacin, the active ingredient of NIASPAN when given in combination with another cholesterol medication, a bile acid binding resin, to patients with high cholesterol and history of coronary heart disease raises HDL and regresses plaques that block arteries.*

In one study, nearly 40% of patients taking niacin, the active ingredient in NIASPAN, along with a cholesterol-lowering drug called colestipol, had a significant regression of plaque in coronary arteries.1 Another study showed that almost 8 times as many patients who took niacin plus colestipol had a significant regression in their disease than those patients who took no medicine.1

Ask your doctor whether NIASPAN can help, based on your cholesterol levels and personal risk factors.

*In patients with coronary artery disease and high cholesterol, niacin, in combination with a bile acid binding resin, another cholesterol medication, has been shown to slow down or reduce atherosclerosis, the hardening of coronary arteries due to plaque build up.
